POSITION SPECIFICS​ We are searching for a Mechanical Engineering Designer to join our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). In this role, you will utilize skill sets consisting of moderately complex level abilities relative to concepts, practices, and procedures of Drafting and 3-D Modeling.ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Assist research engineering programs needing mechanical design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support SpecialistsParticipate in meetings and design reviewsCollaborate to address design, material, and component needs; assist in the resolution of issuesUse accepted standards, methods, and techniques to create intermediate 3D solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) partsCreate 2D detail drawings for intermediate fabrication parts/assemblies using accepted standards, methods and techniques; may also create schematic/bills of material (BOM) documentsPerform Service Center tasks related to documentation control, copying, archiving (.stp and .x_t), and database entryUtilize ARL’s Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Teamcenter) to properly archive and perform configuration management of all design documentationMaintain all required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and securityBuild on your knowledge of design software features, techniques, standards, and specifications (particularly ASME Y 14.5)Provide work status updates to senior personnel and engineering staffRequired skills/experience areas include:Familiarity with mechanical systems and componentsLayout and design using CAD software for component creationAbility to create 2D detail drawings for fabrication parts and assembliesAbility to create 3D parametric solid models which are fully constrainedPreferred skills/experience areas include:Siemens NX CAD experienceExperience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM toolCertification or familiarization with ASME Y14.5Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe productsCurrent eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required.These positions are required to be 100% on-site, but options may exist for a hybrid work from office and work from home scenario dependent upon research requirements. Responsibilities: Conducting walk-throughs and visually assessing the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and any other related equipment Informing the GM and hotel department heads on a regular basis regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structure, related systems, and equipment, and offering prudent, cost-effective proposals for maintaining these systems Ensuring all projects, including, but not limited to, routine maintenance, repairs, replacement, and renovation projects, are completed on time and according to specifications Maintaining effective Energy Management and Preventative Maintenance programs, and conducting special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel Working closely with other departments to ensure coordination of activities. Supervising Engineering associates, including assisting with hiring, training, evaluations, development, and disciplining Preparing and adjusting weekly work schedules in accordance with staff guidelines and labor forecasts Assisting with processing requests for personal time off, holidays for team members, schedule changes, overtime, purchase requests, and expenditures Reviewing guest comments and ensuring that problems are identified and corrected in a timely manner Responding to guest requests in a timely, professional, and friendly manner to help ensure that we are meeting or exceeding guest expectations Acting as the safety coordinator for the entire hotel, including ensuring that all emergency equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified per standards Maintaining a safe working environment throughout the hotel for all associates, enforcing safety guidelines, and building awareness about safety Ensuring compliance with OSHA and fire Safety Laws Assessing critical repairs and facilitating an immediate and cost-effective response Implementing and managing procedures and practices that ensure quality assurance for work performed by hotel maintenance teams Ensuring that there is an adequate inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and materials available through effective ordering Qualifications: The ideal Engineering Supervisor candidate will have previous hotel and supervisory experience. We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individual who will take ownership and who has the organizational skills to manage several tasks at once and lead a team Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Engineer in a hotel Possess a thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment, such as chillers, boilers, water softeners, and refrigeration equipment Possesses extensive working knowledge of building systems to include but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry Demonstrate excellent supervisory and interpersonal skills

Perform DFM (Design for Manufacturability) review on customer designs. Perform spec-review and spec-summary on all customer documents and/or industry standards. Education and Experience: Preferred engineering degree or associate's degree in engineering with 2+ years equivalent design systems experience. Experience in planning, product engineering, and tooling in a PCB manufacturing environment required. Familiarity with standard manufacturing design rules, blueprints, customer specifications and industry standards such as IPC. Experience using a CAD/CAM system is helpful Good written and verbal customer communication skills.
