Overview: Interstate Waste Services is looking for a Full- Time experienced diesel mechanic. MUST have at least 1 to 2 years heavy truck diesel mechanic experience. FULL Time 2nd Shift - Monday thru Friday 12PM to 10PM with 1 or 2 Saturday's a month as needed. Pay is commensurate with experience. Pay range is $27 to $35 an hour. Essential Job Summary Knowledge and ability to perform Preventative Maintenance services with general knowledge related to heavy duty and light duty trucks. This may include gasoline, diesel and CNG Systems. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Aid/assist drivers in completion of the daily Post trip and vehicle safety inspection process Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment during Safety Lane and PM's. Complete lubrication and repair of lubrication points on vehicles as assigned on the daily schedule Ability to learn and utilize brake inspection procedures and complete documentation daily Perform basic repairs and maintenance on Heavy Duty Equipment, including but not limited to Rear Load, Front Load, Roll Off, Grapple, Port-a-let, and other service type trucks including chassis and body. Communication with A & B technicians /drivers as to issues with vehicles and discusses preventative techniques that may minimize future repairs. Completes all required paperwork / computer data entry, including documenting parts usage and time in and out on repair orders, in a timely and concise manner. Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards which may include sweeping, organizing and maintaining the shop and grounds areas. Conducts repairs utilizing Factory Service Manuals. Maintain high standard of Ethics and Dependability. Follows all safety policies and procedures. Requirements and Qualifications Ability to assist drivers with Pre/Post trip process Ability to identify visible repairs required on vehicles: lights, mirrors, leaks, body damage etc. Ability to assist/complete fluid top up on vehicles including oil, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluid, DEF fluid Knowledge of tire inspections and air pressure adjustments Ability to support technicians in repair of lights, wipers, mirrors. Ability to understand and use lubrication charts for waste trucks Ability to lubricate components on trucks as scheduled (training provided) Ability to assist technicians in the repair of basic engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, body components and systems related to Heavy Duty and Light Duty Trucks. Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles. Basic computer skills as required. Diagnoses and repairs differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems. Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist. Completes records such as work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples. Services and maintains other equipment such as light plants, water pump, welders, and other equipment. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Additional Responsibilities Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanic al problems on heavy equipment (heavy equipment includes but not limited to: yellow iron machinery, tractor trailers, forklifts, and other diesel trucks) Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts. Conduct safety checks on vehicles. Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associa ted with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time. Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards. This position will have no direct reports, however they will w ork in collaboration with the other yellow iron diesel mechanic on staff , although on different shifts . Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work. Must be able to lift 50 lbs Performs other duties as assigned Requirements and Qualifications Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required . CDL a plus . At least 5 years of experience in job duties. Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus. Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician a plus. Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt , and Paccar. Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations. Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records. Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position .
