Summary: Prepare estimates and proposals for one or more specific techniques related to specialty foundation construction including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Essential Functions: • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work, attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, interact with operations staff to develop work approach, prepare quantity takeoffs and input data into computerized estimating software (HCSS Heavy Bid) • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials. • Work directly with staff and operations department on completing various project estimates and documentation • Manage the available bid time to insure accurate and timely preparation of an assigned portion of estimate. • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates figures including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc. • Organize and detail the estimate so that it can be easily understood for review purposes and efficiently turned over to field personnel • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts and productivity analysis reports, etc. into current estimates • Ensure estimate accuracy to the maximum extent reasonable and achievable • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, fairness and ethical behavior when representing Nicholson to clients, engineers, vendors, and partners • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide ranging climates and environments • Travel is required for this role Education & Training: Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent degree and experience. Experience: 0-2 years of estimating, cost control and/or Project Engineering/Management experience related to heavy highway or heavy industrial construction projects Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge and expertise of geotechnical construction a plus Interest to learn estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential. Software skills to include/develop: HCSS Heavy Bid, HCSS Heavy Job Physical Requirements: Lifting/carrying/moving up to 40 pounds continually. Travel per the company travel policy, often overnight and away from home Able to concentrate at a high degree in a busy and noisy construction environment. Summary: Provides overall management for base business geotechnical projects and may assist in estimating and project acquisition as needed. Essential Functions: Ensure that all Nicholson and OSHA safety regulations are met and enforced; bottom line responsibility for safety Assist in business development, risk assessment, bid preparation, selling and closing new work Assist in contract negotiation and oversees subcontractor procurement Oversee all aspects of a project in accordance with the Nicholson Project Management Manual Responsible for designs, submittals, material ordering, pre-job planning and scheduling Create and review job budgets, cost reports, forecasts and cash flows Primary contact for clients and subcontractors Manage A/R collections Coordinate, review and submit project change orders, extra work orders, and back charge documentation Analyze, develop and submit claims Coordinate with other managers for support and overall strategy Ensure that all Nicholson policies are followed (safety, quality, travel, drug testing, HR, etc.) Education & Training: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required OSHA 10-hour safety training Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications, building materials, surveying, design, and/or consulting geotechnical work Knowledge and Abilities: Proficient with estimating and job costing procedures Ability to make recommendations for project related decisions such as bidding, estimating and risk assessment Ability to meet with clients; create and deliver presentations; and negotiate contracts Ability to manage in-house and subcontracted engineering services Proven experience with managing client meetings; screening and evaluating of project opportunities; and creation of presentations concerning project work Converse effectively using both verbal and written communication.
