MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) Considerable knowledge of landscape design and maintenance; Considerable knowledge of and the ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment including but now limited to mower, weed eaters, and leaf blowers; Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps; Working knowledge of OSHA standards; Critical thinking and problem solving skills; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; Ability to perform routine maintenance on landscape equipment; Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent; Three years of experience in a landscape design and maintenance field. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must hold and maintain a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License with"L" and "H" endorsements; Within six months of employment complete training to obtain"A" endorsement for North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License; Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Class A) according to the State of NC requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary education in a landscape related field of study. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Completes assigned work based on Maximo work orders relating to landscape needs. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment. Responds to assigned work orders relating to landscape maintenance; troubleshoots appropriate measures, and performs work, as required, by work order. Sprays, treats, and prunes landscapes to control weeds and pests using judgment in selecting appropriate materials and methods. Safely operates landscape maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and sprayers; performs routine maintenance and repairs on landscape equipment. Ensures proper storage, selection, mixing, packaging, and application of hazardous chemicals and toxic materials. Performs other related duties, as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses a variety of equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions, insects and other pests (examples include snakes, bees, wasps, etc.).
