Position Description: Perform, document and report microstructural analysis of manufactured aerospace hardware and witness test coupons. Develop a metallurgical understanding of metals processed by casting, forging, welding, selective laser melting, directed energy deposition, and hot isostatic pressing for the determination of comparative relationships. Qualifications: A degree in engineering or related field is required. A degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 9 years of experience; MS with at least 13 years of experience, or a BS with at least 15 years of experience. Required Skills: Previous experience in either metallic or nonmetallic additive manufacturing (AM). Proficiency in CAD modeling software (preferably ProEngineer) and its application to AM. Must understand design-for-additive considerations/challenges and be able to communicate those to product designers. The ability to be "hands-on" and to communicate and work well with others. Desired skills: Understanding of in-situ monitoring processes. Ability to create generative designs for additive parts. Demonstrated leadership and innovation in the field of AM.
