Contract Design Engineer

Location: Waterloo, Iowa Salary: $35-50/hour Job Summary of the Contract Design Engineer: We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a minimum 6-month contract to support our engineering team with new product design, engineering change orders (ECOs), bill of materials (BOM) management, and print updates. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in SolidWorks and experience working within an ERP system environment. Job Duties & Responsibilities of the Contract Design Engineer: Support the development of new mechanical designs and components. Create and modify 3D models and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks. Manage and update engineering change orders (ECOs) and associated documentation. Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) in accordance with company standards. Ensure all design documentation is accurate and compliant with engineering standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and supply chain, to implement design changes and process improvements. Assist with design reviews, print updates, and release activities through the ERP system. Education & Experience Requirements of the Contract Design Engineer: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 3 years of experience in mechanical design or related engineering work preferred, but willing to look at New Grads and Entry-Level. Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation required). Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes. Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills. Experience in a manufacturing or product development environment. Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
