Engineering Technician

A hands-on and detail-oriented Engineering Technician is needed to join their team a growing team. The Engineering Technician will support engineering and manufacturing teams in the design, testing, and implementation of new and existing products and processes. This role plays a key part in ensuring product quality, process efficiency, and technical excellence on the production floor.
Engineering Technician Responsibilities:
Product & Process Support
- Partner with engineers on the design, building, testing, and validation of automotive components, assemblies, and systems
- Lead prototype builds and conducts functional, performance, and durability testing
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; provide actionable insights for product and process optimization
- Play a key role in New Product Introduction (NPI), including PFMEA, control plans, process setup, and validation
Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Drive manufacturing process improvements using Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S methodologies to boost efficiency, safety, and quality
- Rapidly troubleshoot equipment and process issues, perform root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why), and implement permanent corrective actions
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to minimize downtime and maximize throughput
- Support Six Sigma and continuous improvement projects
Technical Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Create and maintain detailed work instructions, test reports, technical specifications, and engineering drawings
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific quality requirements
- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
Equipment, Tooling & Test Lab
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced laboratory and production test equipment (data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, dynamometers, etc.)
- Design and fabricate custom fixtures, gauges, and tooling using SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Support automation and robotics integration initiatives
Engineering Technician Qualifications & Requirements:
- Associates degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field (preferred)
- High school diploma/GED combined with 25+ years of hands-on technical experience will be considered
- 25 years as an Engineering Technician, Lab Technician, or Manufacturing Technician in automotive or Tier 1/2 supplier environment strongly preferred
- Proficient reading blueprints, GD&T, schematics, and mechanical/electrical drawings
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, data loggers, CMM, and other precision measurement tools
- SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD experience required
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Root Cause Analysis, and Continuous Improvement tools
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment
