Sheet Metal Duct Installation Leader (Commercial / Industrial HVAC)

Overview We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Duct Installation Leader to lead commercial and industrial ductwork installations on HVAC projects throughout the Cleveland area. This is a hands-on leadership role focused primarily on sheet metal duct layout, fabrication, and installation, with HVAC equipment coordination and startup as secondary responsibilities. The ideal candidate leads by example, maintains high workmanship standards, and keeps crews productive, safe, and on schedule.
Scope of Work Lead and perform installation of commercial and industrial sheet metal duct systems, including layout, hanging, sealing, and coordination with other trades. Support HVAC equipment installation and startup on 2-15 ton rooftop and split systems as required by the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and install commercial and industrial sheet metal duct systems (rectangular, spiral, lined, grease, and high-pressure).
- Layout ductwork from drawings, including elevations, offsets, and coordination with structure and other trades.
- Fabricate, assemble, hang, and seal duct systems to SMACNA standards and project specifications.
- Supervise and direct installation crews; assign tasks, maintain productivity, and ensure quality workmanship.
- Train and mentor installers while enforcing safety, quality, and jobsite accountability.
- Coordinate daily jobsite activities, materials, and manpower with supervisors and project managers.
- Support HVAC equipment installation and startup when required.
- Maintain jobsite safety, cleanliness, and compliance with company and OSHA standards.
- Communicate progress, material needs, and field conditions clearly and proactively.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial or industrial sheet metal duct installation experience.
- Proven experience as a lead installer or foreman on duct installation projects.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Hands-on experience with duct hanging systems, sealing methods, and insulation practices.
- Working knowledge of HVAC equipment installation and startup procedures.
- EPA 608 Certification preferred (Universal a plus).
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
Physical & Work Conditions
- Monday-Friday with occasional overtime or weekend work as required.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors; ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work on rooftops and lifts.
